Celebrating Tiburon 50 Years As A Town – 1964-2014
Landmarks Archivist Dave Gotz has created a 24 page booklet which highlights significant and interesting events and people from the first 50 years of the Town of Tiburon. This limited edition booklet is available at the Landmarks office, the Railroad & Ferry Museum and the Archives for $5.00. (Sample pages below)
Tiburon’s Golden Anniversary
Using photos taken on the actual date of Tiburon’s incorporation (June 23, 1964) by Wesley Wilkes, Landmarks Archivist Dave Gotz matched, as close as possible, the same shot in May 2014. He then melded them together producing a dramatic montage. To make the short film more memorable, we asked Corte Madera filmmaker Mike Jetter shoot some exciting aerial film with his drone. (you can see more of Mike’s work at: http://mikejetter-aerials.com.)
Wesley Wilkes was an assistant planner with the County of Marin and a Tiburon resident. He was asked by one of Landmarks founders and the preeminent Tiburon historian Louise Teather to go out on June 23 and take photos around the area. The results are a quality collection of black & white shots which preserve the way our town looked fifty years ago.
A limited DVD edition of the film, which also includes 23 minutes of aerial footage Mike Jetter shot, is available at the Railroad Museum, and from our office – priced to cover the production expense of $5.
Landmarks Celebrates Tiburon’s Golden Anniversary
The Town of Tiburon celebrated it’s 50th anniversary with events on May 30-31, 2014 and Landmarks made significant contributions from our History Collections including a dramatic then and now photo montage, commemorative booklet and a retelling of the incorporation story in the latest newsletter.
